Fabulous In The Fall

Pictou Is Fabulous In The Fall

The days maybe shorter and the nights may be cooler, but Fall is still my favourite time of the year in Nova Scotia. I love the warm sunny days and crisp evenings, the smaller crowds and easy touring... and the turning of the leaves in late September and into October is an amazing sight to see! So check out all the fabulous things Fall has to offer...warm sweaters and county fairs…apple orchards and fall farmer’s markets…spectacular fall colours and great celtic music… warm sunny days and crisp Autumn evenings…

Special Fall Fare At The Evening Sail...

But cooler evenings call for different circumstances… In the main house, our light summer quilts give way to warm micro-fiber sheets and fluffy duvets…and because chilly evenings are a perfect time to burrow under a fluffy duvet with a good book , we've made sure that every room has a basketful of best-sellers, local fiction and assorted guilty pleasures.

Mornings may start out a little cooler and you'll need something a bit more substantial to warm you up until the sun can ease that nip of frost from the air… and because chillier mornings call for heartier breakfasts, we've added real cooked oatmeal (or porridge, as its generally called around here) to our breakfast menu…and added an array of toppings, like golden raisins, cinnamon brown sugar and pecans, to make it just right. Harvest inspired items like pumpkin muffins, sweet potato pancakes and warm apple crisp will also join the lineup.

Be sure to check out our new Lobster Picnic Supper...

Simply choose your room and we’ll do the rest. When you check in, your picnic will be waiting for you – packed in a cooler - on ice and ready to go! Enjoy a whole lobster picnic for two...complete with melted butter, rolls, salads and all the fixings. We’ll even send you off with a few suggestions as to where you might stop and enjoy your meal …overlooking the surf at a nearby beach … or on your own private balcony… and we’ll pack it all up with wineglasses, candles, a tablecloth and everything else you’ll need for a fancy picnic that’ll be the envy of all! Lots Of Ways to Spend Your Fall Days...

Just because the summer's over doesn't mean you'll have a hard time finding things to do! With the kids back in school you'll have the beaches and trails practically to yourself!

Smaller crowds mean more relaxing touring schedules and you'll probably want to consider spending at least a day or two in the Pictou area. Check out our Ways to Spend Your Fall Days section for suggestions and ideas…..

We're Also The Perfect Stopover….

On The Road To Cape Breton's Celtic Colours Festival

Autumn is the time when the sounds of fiddles, pipes and voices in song echo over Cape Breton with Celtic Colours International Festival and Pictou is a terrific stopover on the way to Cape Breton! An event to remember with over 250 musicians, dancers, singers, and storytellers at venues across the island, the festival's goal is to increase international awareness of Cape Breton's own world-class Celtic talent and to help preserve Cape Breton's "living" Celtic culture.  For more information click here .

On The Road To Prince Edward Island

P.E.I. is a very popular destination in the fall and whether you choose to stopover in Pictou on your way to a days long visit to the island, or you want a homebase in order to pop over for a quick daytrip, the Evening Sail B&B is the place to be!

Check out the island's many world-class golf courses here or take a look at some of the events and festivals taking place on Prince Edward Island this fall here .

The Wood Islands Ferry Terminal is located only minutes from the Evening Sail and the ferry to P.E.I. runs several times a day until December 20th. For up-to-date ferry schedules click here.
